You can find books, ebooks, and other materials in Bertrand Library’s collections by searching the WorldCat Library Catalog, which appears on the Library homepage and on each page of the Research by Subject guides.
Step 1: If you are looking for a specific type of material (book, article, a specific journal, etc.) select a tab at the top of the search box to limit your search. Otherwise, leave “All Collections” selected.
Step 2: You can further limit your search by selecting an option from the drop-down box. This is especially helpful if you are looking for an item by its title or author. The default is “keyword,” which looks across all searchable fields for the information you enter in the search box.
Step 3: Click the Search button.
Step 4: Narrow your search using the limiting options at the left side of the page. You can narrow your results by format, author, date range, language, topic, and more.
Step 5: Select an item by clicking its title.
Step 6: For print books, look for the item’s “Call Number.” For items that are physically held in the library, the call number gives you information about where to find it within the library and on the shelf. Make note of the call number.
Step 7: Use the “Floor Guide” to locate the item. You can find this by clicking the Resources menu at the top of the WorldCat page.
Example: Call number PS3573 .A425 C6 1985 (the book The Color Purple) can be found here, according to the Floor Guide: P-PZ: Lower Level One, Rear.
WorldCat can also search for materials (including journal articles) that are not physically held in the Bertrand Library, such as journal articles that can be accessed electronically, and books that we don’t own but can borrow from other libraries.
